Visit from the dental hygienists

Our trip to Mountsberg presented a lot of information. The children enjoyed meeting all the birds of prey especially all the different types of owls. We learned that some owls like the barn owl are becoming extinct because there aren't any more wood barns for them to live in. We leaned that owls like eating small animals like chipmunks and mice. Owls have great hearing and can see at night so they can hear their dinner in the forest. Owls heads can turn almost aloe way around. Owls sleep during the day and hunt at night. We especially loved the bus ride. It was a great day.

Blue Springs Salon and Spa

In response to recent interest in hair, make up and nails Room 1 went on a trip to the Blue Springs Spa here in town. The children got a very detailed tour of the spa. We learned about all the different things that can be done at the spa, like hair cuts and colour, manicures and pedicure, esthetics and massage. We got to see all the tools that are used daily by the stylist. The children really enjoyed watching Nathan's mom getting her free demo eyebrow wax. It was fun watching her flinch...lol

Little architects

The kids in Room 1 have shown great skill in building complex structures. They even enjoy tearing them down and reconstructing them by looking at the photos we take of them.

A little bit of style

With a bit of sit down and work together the children decided they wanted a nail and hair salon. The children had a great time doing each other's hair and nails.

Here is a recipe that works well:

2 cups water

2 cups flour

1 cup salt

2 Tbsp oil

2 Tbsp cream of tartar OR alum

food colouring OR 1 Koolaid drink mix (without sugar)

Bring water salt and oil to a boil. Stir until salt has dissolved and remove from heat. Add cream of tartar OR alum and colouring. Gradually add flour to mixture. Plop on counter to cool, then knead. If necessary, you may need to add more flour while kneading to get the right consistency. When cool, seal in a ziplock bag.
